GAELS GOBBLE UP THANKSGIVING WEEKEND WIN AT WINDSOR
By John Edwards, Queen's Sports Information
A season-high 193 yards from Ryan Granberg (Sherwood Park, Alta.) paced the No. 5-ranked Queen's Gaels to a 24-7 win over the Windsor Lancers in OUA football action at the University of Windsor Stadium, Saturday. The fourth-year running back carried 31 times as the Gaels improved their record to 5-1, setting up a battle for second place in the OUA next week at Guelph.
While Granberg accounted for nearly half of the Gaels' 477 yards of total offence, both Queen's touchdowns came through the air. Giovanni Aprile (Toronto, Ont.) scored on a 15-yard pass from Ryan Mitchell (Toronto, Ont.) in the third quarter, while Justin Chapdelaine (Abbotsford, B.C.) scored on a 45-yard pass-and-run from Billy McPhee (Burlington, Ont.) early in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
The Gaels again got off to a slow start on the scoreboard, as they led 8-0 at halftime on a pair of field goals by Dillon Wamsley (London, Ont.) and a safety touch conceded by Windsor. A fourth-quarter safety touch rounded out the scoring for Queen's.
Windsor's only score came in the fourth quarter on a pass from Austin Kennedy (Windsor, Ont.) to Evan Pszczonak (Amherstburg, Ont.).
McPhee went 17-for-30 for 210 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Mitchell went 2-for-3 for 23 yards during a third-quarter relief appearance. Chapedlaine led the Gaels' receivers with seven catches for 99 yards. Aprile caught five passes for 67 yards and led Queen's with 227 all-purpose yards – highlighted by an 87-yard missed field goal return in the second half.
Windsor's Kennedy went 18-for-30 for 210 yards, and was also the Lancers' leading rusher, with 10 carries for 62 yards. Dylan Whitfield (Windsor, Ont.) made six catches for 97 yards to lead the Windsor receivers.
The Gaels held Windsor to 277 total yards of offence including a paltry 57 in the first half. Cory Dyer (Gananoque, Ont.) led the Queen's defence with 5.5 tackles, including 4.5 sacks – one short of the school record. Altogether, the Gaels sacked Kennedy seven times, with Derek Wiggan (Toronto, Ont.) and Sam Sabourin (Stittsville, Ont.) each picking up one sack, and Andrew Sauer (Ayr, Ont.) earning a half-sack.

By Blair Hough, Windsor Sports Information
The Windsor Lancer football program lost 24-7 to the No. 5 Queen's Gaels in their final regular season home game at Alumni Field on Saturday night.
The Lancers are now 3-3 on the season heading into week seven against the No. 1 McMaster Marauders.
In a tame first half, the Lancer offense struggled against a solid Queen's defensive line. The Gaels held the Lancers to 57 total yards in the first half, and seven sacks on QB Austin Kennedy.
The Gaels opened the scoring midway through the first quarter with a 32 yard field goal by Dillon Wamsley. Six minutes later, the Lancers conceded a safety to end the first quarter scoring.
The second quarter opened with another Queen's field goal by Dillon Wamsley, this time a short 18 yard kick through the uprights.
Queen's built a 22-0 lead in the fourth quarter with touchdowns by Giovanni Aprile and Justin Chapdelaine before the Lancers managed to get on the board with a 28 yard touchdown pass to Evan Pszczonak with 11 minutes remaining.
The Lancers were then assessed a penalty in their own end zone, conceding another safety to the Gaels to close out the scoring.
The Gaels dominated the Lancers on the offensive side of the ball with 580 total yards to Windsor's 268.
Kennedy finished with 210 passing yards, 62 rushing yards, and one touchdown while Dylan Whitfield led the way in the air with 97 yards receiving.
Queen's Ryan Granberg finished the game with 200 yards rushing, while Billy McPhee had 210 passing yards.
