The offense had a big day with 32 first downs, 274 yards rushing and 437 yards passing for a net offense of 698 yards. Leading the way were Mike Giffin who had 214 yards rushing on 26 carries for 1 TD, and one long pass reception of 78 yards and a TD. Chris Ioannides had a big day with 7 receptions for 126 yards and 2 touchdowns. Scott Valberg had 80 yards on 3 catches, Devan Sheahan caught 4 passes for 70 yards, and Mark Surya was g0od on 2 for 59 yards. Danny Brannagan was good on 19 of 37 passes for his 437 yards the air and threw 3 TD passes and one pick.
On special teams, Jimmy Allin had another big day with 7 punt returns for 161 yards and a kick return of 23 yards. This to go with an interception in the end zone that snuffed out a Guelph drive. Dan Village was good on 4 of 6 field goal attempts plus 4 converts for a total of 17 points.
For a change, the Gaels defense had trouble containing the Guelph offense, which had 29 first downs, 179 yards on the ground, and 462 yards in the air. Guelph's net offense totaled 631 yards. Thaine Carter had a busy day with 8.5 tackles, followed by TJ Leeper with 8.0, Alex Daprato with 7.5, Michael Bowey with 5.5, and Chris Smith with 5.0. TJ and Osie Ukwuoma each had a sack.
Next up: The Gaels host Laurier at Richardson Stadium on September 13 at 1:00pm. The 1968, 1978 and 1983 teams will celebrate their College Bowl or Vanier Cup appearances during Legacy Weekend.
