Windsor at Queen's 20031018
Count me among the puzzled fans when the Lancers kept coming back and tied the game at 17. Then the Gaels caught fire and finished with 34 unanswered points to completely lance Windsor, 51-17. With numerous records set on the day, the Queen's passing attack was back on track. Tom Denison was good on 33 of 49 passes for 429 yards and 4 TD's, ran one in for a TD, and was NOT the leading ground gainer for the Gaels! On the year, Tom set a new CIS record for pass completions with 203 to go with his CIS record of 3,001 yards passing set last year. He also set the new OUA mark for TD passes with 24 on the year. Craig Spear had a great day hauling in 9 passes for 156 yards and three touchdowns. That gave him 1,000 yards on the year and a CIS record 63 pass receptions. Iain Fleming had 8 receptions for 79 yards and one score while 7 other receivers and backs caught passes for the remaining 221 yards. Chris Rogan waited all year but finally scored on a late 15 yard sprint. With Michael Navo still out, the running attack accounted for 64 yards, 8 first downs and 2 touchdowns. Net offense was 520 yards.
The final TD was scored on an interception by Adam Ross. Other defensive highlights included two other interceptions - by Jack Gaudreau and Nathan Haskell - and two fumble recoveries - by Ryan Bechmanis and Nick Corneil. The D allowed just 11 Lancer first downs, 195 yards in rhe air, and 124 yards on the ground.
The Queen's coaching staff was back to full strength with the return of Coach Berk Brean and was augmented with the addition of "Coach-for-the-day" Kent Plumley who doubles as President of the Queen's Football Club and fellow Queen's Trustee.
The win completes the Gaels' 2003 regular season at 7-1-0-1 and sets up the OUA quarter-final game in Kingston against York on October 25.
