ALMEIDA GOAL LIFTS QUEEN'S OVER CARLETON
By Queen'sSports Information
The Gaels (4-2-0) defeated the Carleton Ravens (4-2-1) 1-0 in their first game at the revitalized Richardson Stadium Sunday afternoon.
GAME FLOW
The Gaels began the game with plenty of offensive pressure, creating scoring opportunities from several crosses and through-balls. The ladies maintained possession of the ball for the majority of the game and kept control of game play throughout, but it was the Ravens who had more shots on goal through the first 45 minutes.
The Gaels played an aggressive second half against Carleton, but both teams managed to stay out of the referee's book. Jenny Wolever (Toronto) led Queen's with two shots on goal, but ultimately it was Birttany Almeida (Kingston) who reached the back of the net with a beautiful goal in the 76th minute.
Madison Tyrell (White Rock) saved all eight of the Ravens attempts on goal.
BY THE NUMBERS
0 – zero cards were given to either team
5 – five shots on goal for the Gaels
1 – one goal for Queen's for the win!
FINAL SAY
"Mostly we were focusing on enjoying ourselves in the fantastic facility. Friday night's game was like a playoff game in Ottawa, super intense and super fast to be honest so it was nice to dictate style a little bit more up front today. I thought we played, for the most part, pretty well." – Dave McDowell
