QUEEN'S 71, TORONTO 44
NO.4 GAELS TOPPLE TORONTO AND MOVE TO 16-0 ON THE SEASON
Queen's Sports Information
The No.4 Queen's Gaels (16-0) kept their perfect record intact with an impressive 71-44 win over Toronto (7-9) on Saturday night in OUA women's basketball.
Robyn Pearson (Toronto) secured her second double-double in as many nights as the Gaels secured win number 16 on the season. Pearson posted 18 points and 10 rebounds in the game while Marianne Alarie (Sudbury, Ont.) had 15 points, six rebounds and four steals in the win.
The Gaels defensive prowess was strong once again as the Varsity Blues scored just seven points in the opening quarter, shooting just 23.9% in the game and hitting only two of 20 three point attempts.
The win is a significant one for head coach Dave Wilson and the Gaels as it matches the most in an OUA regular season for Queen's, a feat that Wilson has hit twice before with a 16-6 season in 2013-14 and a 16-6 season in 2003-04
Toronto saw a strong performance from Sarah Bennett off the bench as she posted a double-double of her own with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
BY THE NUMBERS
3 - The total number of three-point shots made in the game combined
16 - Most wins by a Queen's women's basketball team in a season, a mark that should be eclipsed this season
2nd - Straight game with a double-double for Pearson
