Josh Sacobie passed for 204 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Ottawa Gee-Gees dominated the University of Western Ontario Mustangs 17-3 Sunday night in their Ontario University Athletics season opening football match at Frank Clair Stadium.
Sacobie went 15 of 26 as the Gee-Gees racked up 401 yards in offence, while holding the vaunted Mustangs attack to just 183 yards. Western pivot Michael Faulds completed 19 of 40 passes for 139 yards and one interception.
The Gee-Gees took a 1-0 lead after the opening 15-minutes before the Mustangs took the lead on a Derek Schiavone 15-yard field goal mid-way through the second period. Western looked to take a two-point advantage to the locker room until Josh Sacobie hooked up with David Crane on a hail mary pass on the final play of the half to give the Gee-Gees an 8-3 advantage at the break.
Ottawa increased its lead to 11 with 3:02 to play in the third quarter when Sacobie hooked up with Matt Edgeworth for a 16-yard touchdown strike to complete a seven-play 85-yard drive.
The Mustangs conceded a safety with less than 5-minutes to go to round out the scoring.
David Crane led all receivers hauling in 4 passes for 69-yards and a touchdown, while Davey Masson rushed for a game-high 123-yards on 23 carries. D.J. Bennett was the leading Mustangs receiver with 27-yards on four catches, while rushing for another 29. (Source: OUA)
